PICTURE THIS: 14 women sitting around a fire deep in nature. Away from phones, social media and the stresses of daily life. THE REVOLUTION STARTS WITHIN-WOMENS RETREAT. Women embark upon a journey to free themselves from shame and from the lies we have been told about what it is to be a woman. 14 women sit around a fire to tell stories about women who have come before them. The heroines who have paved the way for us to begin our liberation. We will recognise and speak the names of black, indigenous and women of colour who have lighted this path. We remember these stories and speak them with intention. 14 women deeply listening to themselves. 14 women listening deeply to each other. We notice our stories sound familiar. Although each one different and unique in their own way. We come here to reclaim our power. We come to this retreat with women to remember who we are. We come together on this journey to realise what we must do to truly smash the patriarchy. Sometimes this deep inner work is uncomfortable. But it must be done. Will you cross the threshold with us? BOOK IN LINK IN PROFILE. #womensretreat #yoga #smashthepatriarchy #women #innerwork #reclaimyourpower #healing #whoareyou? #lovemyself #womenempowerment
The altar at the last PRENATAL WORKSHOP @modern_organic The next one is fast approaching SATURDAY MARCH 9th. We will be exploring the topic of “Birth Art” as teacher and tool for birth preparation. When you think of art in the traditional sense we usually think it has to be outcome based. But these practices are about the experience of the journey and what you learn about yourself from within. Birth art can form part of your healing from previous births and prepare you for postpartum. No artistry required. Just an open mind and willingness to do something different!! :) #birthart #birth #pregnancy #postpartum #healing #yoga
So here it is!!! Our first women’s retreat for 2019. MAY 17-19th. Mangrove Mountain, NSW secret location. Nature. Telling stories by the fire. Marshmallows? Inner work to heal menstruation shame. Did you know that modern C sections were invented by African women— centuries before they were standard elsewhere?
.
Midwives and surgeons living around Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria perfected the procedure hundreds of years ago. When a baby couldn’t be delivered vaginally, these healers sedated the laboring mother using large amounts of banana wine. They tied the mother to the bed for safety, sterilized a knife using heat, and made the incision, acting quickly as a team to prevent excessive blood loss or the accidental cutting of other organs. The combination of sterile, sharp equipment and sedation made the procedure surprisingly calm and comfortable for the mother. .
After the baby was delivered, antiseptic tinctures and salves were used to clean the area and stitches were applied. Women rarely developed infections, shock, or excessive blood loss after a cesarean section and the most common problem reported was that it took longer for the mother’s milk to come in (an issue that was solved with friends and relatives who would nurse the baby instead).
.
In Uganda, C sections were normally performed by a team of male healers, but in Tanzania and DRC, they were typically done by female midwives.
.
The majority of women and babies survived this, and when questioned about it by European colonists in the mid-1800s, many people in Uganda and Tanzania indicated that the procedure had been performed routinely since time immemorial. .
This was at a time when Europeans had only barely started to figure out that they should wash their hands before performing surgery, when nearly half of European and US women died in childbirth, and when nearly 100% of European women died if a C section was performed.

You’ve known me as LAUREN Horton for a while. Astrid is a name that came to me whilst I was on Wilderness Quest, a camping 3 day solo mission, with the Four Seasons Journey with @schoolofshamanicwomancraft
You can call me Astrid or LAUREN if you forget. It’s a big transition. It’s not totally formal yet. But this year it will be. We’ve all got to step out of our comfort zone sometimes. In fact, more often.

ASTRID // This beautiful soul has been teaching with us since we opened! .
Astrid teaches a weekly flow class on Tuesday evenings at 5:45pm as well as a monthly 2 hour prenatal workshop style class (next one THIS Saturday!)
.
These two hour Prenatal workshops are for pregnant women from 12-42 weeks gestation. You will experience a combination of childbirth education and prenatal yoga from an experienced prenatal yoga teacher, Birthing from Within Mentor®️ and doula (birth support person). .
Astrid has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching for 10 years. She began her yoga journey to help her manage the stress and anxiety of exams in the last year of high school. Since then, she has become a childbirth educator, prenatal yoga teacher, Reiki master, doula, shamanic woman-crafter and mother to two boys. Her classes are intuitively created, often times improvised, and she always offers alternatives to cater to the needs of her students. She encourages deep listening and inner awareness, and uses her singing voice as a healing tool at the end of each class. .
Next prenatal class on THIS SATURDAY! Book via our website or through the Facebook event.

It’s the First women’s circle for 2019! We will focus on the phase of “mother”, the element of “fire” and season of “summer”. This circle is for all women. Remember that the mother phase of our life can be about human babies, project/creative babies and nurturing the mother within/without. You don’t need to be a mother of a human baby to enjoy this circle. That said mums with human babies in arms welcome. I hope that’s not too confusing. We can all benefit from this circle. Be open to sharing what you’d like to share, breathing deeply, singing and healing your voices, and remembering who you are. Repost from @nowhitesaviors please see their page for new content included in this series - Renee Bach of @servinghis pictured with a stethoscope around her neck, examining children, charting in medical files & actively engaging in hands on medical care. Can you imagine someone from Uganda moving to the U.S. and opening up their home, taking in critically ill children and directly practicing medicine without any formal training? They would be in prison after ONE death, let alone, 100s. The simple truth is that Black lives and in our case BLACK AFRICAN lives are not valued in the same way as if it were white American children. •
White saviourism is rooted in the core belief of the *well-meaning* that Black & African people (in our context) are to be pitied & used to soothe their white guilt.
•
In many cases, this may stop at illusions of grandeur after a young white evangelical woman reads “Kisses from Katie” and decides that God is also *calling her* to move to our *primitive* continent and determine the way, with passion & prayer, to address complex problems in our communities. •
In other cases, it can become violent & dangerous - the crimes committed can be covered up when you are white, American and have access to money. In 2015, Renee and SHC were CLOSED DOWN by the DHO (District Health Officer) of Jinja and told they could NOT open again in Jinja District, that is why they ran to Mayuge District, a more rural location. Even then, people were being threatened and warned to back off and allow her to do her *good work*.
•
American friends & followers, are you going to allow one of your own to get away with such atrocities in our country? Does the world value Black lives in Uganda, East Africa?
•
Calling on @celestebarber @mrsconstancehall @mamamiaaus @australiandoulacollege @centralcoastdoula @veganliciouslife @art_of_the_spiral @janineatibirth — and all other activists & educators - please share!!
No one has paid attention to this in mainstream media. We are pretending it didn’t happen. In 2019, these innocent, indigenous girls should not have had to suffer the ingrained, systemic racism that is in the very cells of our own white bodies. This is a tragedy for the families involved. Taking action shouldn’t have to start because you feel angry or sad, it should have happened before that. I’ve only started waking up in the last year and I’m 40 years old. I’m guilty. Everything starts within. Racism is a part of the patriarchal system. If you want to destroy that, you need to destroy racism within too. Not one white soul gets off the hook. It’s all of us. Even the people that “think” they are the good ones. It’s uncomfortable to do the inner work. But thats the least of our worries. Take the steps and take responsibility for what you’ve been upholding. Own up to it. Listen. And then do better. EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Shared with permission. The next Prenatal Workshop @modern_organic is Saturday 9th February. The last one was fully booked. We only have space for 16 women. Bookings essential!! Let’s do the inner work for birth, the inner work for motherhood and the inner work to become the women we need to be!! #smashthepatriarchy #lovemyself #womenempowerment #reclaimyourpower #prenatalyoga #pregnancy #birth #yoga #innerwork #healyourself
Today, on this full moon, I went to Sydney with @veganliciouslife to stand in power with a diverse group of women at the Women’s March. This march centred black, indigenous and womxn of colour which was bloody fantastic!! We heard from the amazing Yumi Stynes, Auntie Norma, Bhenji Ra, Jane Brock, Bri Lee and Rae Johnston. All amazing women leading in activism, writing, media and indigenous/immigrant affairs. I was there to stand for intersectional feminism. I was there to support and centre BIPOC and I was there for my boys. I want to do more to change the world we live in. I want to face myself, continue to do the inner work and to always be open to saying sorry, doing better and taking responsibility for my actions. I will always take responsibility for my own healing and for who I am in this world. I will never be a doormat again. I will never let someone take my power. I will create healthy boundaries for myself that empower me to discern what is right for me regardless of the reaction. I urge you all to consider what you are upholding within in order to stay safe, stay small and stuck. You are your children’s role model. Who are you going to be? #lovemyself #reclaimyourpower #smashthepatriarchy #globalbloodprayers #womensmarchsydney #womensmarch #womenempowerment #womenspower
Yesterday, the crew at Modern Organic got together for a photo session just before sunset. Kiran, you are a talented woman. 📷 @modern_organic Thanks so much for the wonderful photos. You really captured me!! #yoga #lovemyself #reclaimyourpower #lovethyself
This photo shared with permission from the beautiful birthing mumma. The support you need during birth goes beyond the physical realm. You need emotional, physical and spiritual connection with yourself, your baby and your support people and care provider. They need to see you, hear you, hold you and give you the time and space to move through each moment lovingly. Additional childbirth education to the hospital courses will provide you with a well rounded and informed toolkit, that allows you to make decisions from both your intuition and your mind. My @birthingfromwithin courses for couples give you a space to unpack your perception of birth and your fears, whilst sharing multi sensory pain coping practices for all stages of labour. My workshops are created with you in mind. I go with your flow!!! That’s how it’s supposed to be. Your body knows how to give birth, you just need to get out of the way to let it happen. NEXT BIRTH WORKSHOP JANUARY 19th. Full day with lunch plus notes. DM me if you’d like more info.
